My professional vocation is one of lecturer in the field of visual arts (graphic design and photography). I've always emjoyed sharing my knowledge, and to this day teaching and learning remains a passion.
Every individual learns differently. Some people purchase books and slowly work through examples and exercises, whilst others may discover that video tutorials unlock the key to effective learning. From my experience in the creative arts a large proportion of students learn most effectively when they are face to face with a tutor who simply shows them how to perform a skill.
As most visitors to this website are aware, I have collaborated with David Nightingale from Chromasia for several years, both as a personal friend, and in a professional capacity on commissions. Chromasia is now a full time business, and one of the main areas of activity will be the implementation and growth of digital photographic training courses.
As lecturers, we can deliver an engaging, relevant, teaching and learning experience. Our objective is to bring first class digital photographic education to those people who require a totally hands on face to face approach to learning the complex techniques specific to digital photography.
Chromasia Tutorials caters for many learning styles, and my involvement will be confined to teaching on the many training weekends scheduled to run throughout this summer and beyond.
The courses will address many aspects of digital photography (full details available from chromasia). In addition to the planned course content we place an emphasis on informal discussion and debate surrounding the contextual issues of historical and contemporary photography. We think it is an advantage if your new found technical skills are supported by an enhanced awareness of photography.
During the courses we present our ideas on realising creative intentions through pre-visualisation and sympathetic post processing. This aspect of the course is vital as it usually provides the stimulation and motivation to produce improved photography after the course regardless of the techniques you learn.
